The proposed site of the South City Museum and Cultural Center is Porter Jr. Hi., the planned redevelopment of the MLK Transition Academy. Located in the heart of South City, the MLK Transition Academy and more notably, Porter Junior High School, is located directly across the street from Foote Park at South City, the new Choice Neighborhoods Initiative housing development. Once a thriving asset in the community, Porter Junior High School, was a neighborhood school that many prominent African-Americans attended during their formative years. The historic school is now the namesake of the proposed development, Porter Jr. Hi.
